The Abrams Planetarium
Located on the campus of Michigan State University, it's a great place to learn about the night sky. School Shows are available by reservation Tuesday through Friday at 9:30 am, 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. Teachers can choose the presentation from a list of shows that meet current curriculum standards. Public shows are presented every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:30 pm and 4:00 pm. The 4-H Children's Garden
The 4-H Children's Garden is open every day from sunrise to sunset. Admission is free. If you'd like, you can take a guided tour of the Children's Garden. Learn about the theme areas, history of the gardens, interesting facts and more. The tour lasts about an hour. The cost is $1 per child, $2 per adult. $20 minimum per group. Fenner Nature Center
Under the guidance of a staff naturalist, your students will explore the fields, forests, and wetlands of Fenner Nature Center to observe the lessons of nature first hand. Ask about the possibility of an extended day program so you can work with your students in the arts, social studies, language arts, or other areas of your curriculum, while Fenner Nature Center conducts the science lesson. Harris Nature Center
It is the mission of the Harris Nature Center to protect, promote and interpret the Red Cedar river and its surrounding ecosystems. Through creative exhibits, programs and exploration of the native environment of the Harris Nature Center, visitors are encouraged to observe, experience and appreciate this representative slice of mid-Michigan riverine habitat. Impression 5 Science Center
Visiting Impression 5 is a great way for kids of all ages to learn about the wonders of science. Kids can explore several fun hands-on exhibits and learn about chemistry, biology, physics, and solar energy. They can also explore the properties of sight, sound, and perception. Kresge Art Museum
Kresge Art Museum, founded in 1959, houses Michigan State University's collection of over 7,000 works of art. Portions of the collection are on continuous display, offering a rich diversity of style, technique and media. Objects on view span 5,000 years of human history and include representative examples of works of art from ancient Cycladic figures to contemporary mixed media installations. Kresge Art Museum offers docent-guided tours to area schools. Tours are designed to stimulate students' interest in art and expand their critical thinking skills through a variety of activities. Special programs and thematic tours that related to the school curriculum have been prepared. In keeping with Michigan State University's land grant philosophy, the museum has a public as well as an institutional mission to serve students, faculty and the community through opportunities to experience the fine arts. Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society
The Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society collects, preserves, and displays documents, records, and memorabilia relating to the Michigan Supreme Court and the other Courts of Michigan. It also promotes the study of the history of Michigan's courts, and seeks to increase public awareness of Michigan's legal heritage. It's located in the Hall of Justice on the 1st Floor. Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center
On November 1, 2002 the Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center opened its doors to the public. This 3,800 sq. ft. public education center introduces children and adults to the Michigan court system. The Learning Center is designed for students from the fourth grade to adults. The gallery is filled with activities including an introductory video, computer programs, push-button programs and traditional wall text panels. The Learning Center is open on Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closed on weekends and state holidays. The Michigan Women's Historical Center & Hall of Fame
The Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame offers exhibits which portray the lives, achievements and history of Michigan women, including members of the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame. An art gallery with changing exhibits displays the work of outstanding Michigan women artists and photographers. The Cooley-Haze House, where the Center is located, is on the State Register of Historic Places and opened to the public on June 10, 1987. It is the first of its kind in the nation. It's located six blocks south of the Capitol at Capitol and Main Street. The Public hours are Wed., Thurs. & Fri. 12-5 pm., Sat. 12-4 pm, Sun. 2-4 pm. On a trip to the Bug House your guide will introduce you to the fascinating world of insects. Each guide is a graduate student in the Department of Entomology and has a diverse knowledge of insects and the interesting things they do. Stop by the MSU Dairy Store for an cool ice cream treat after seeing the Abrams Planetarium! As part of the Dairy Foods Complex at Michigan State University, the Dairy Store helps meet the teaching, research and outreach needs of the University community and dairy food industry. While operating as an outlet for products manufactured in the Dairy Plant, the Dairy Store also is a focal point for educational and public relations activities for the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center
The MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center (HTRC) is located 4 miles south of Michigan State University campus on Collins Road just off US127, and is open to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. The horse facility has a long history of breeding high quality purebred horses, and has been a part of Michigan State University since its founding in 1855. Since then, the farm has been the home to world caliber Belgians, Percherons and Quarter Horses. MSU has been breeding purebred Arabians since the 1940's, and continues to use them in the teaching and research programs conducted at the Horse Teaching and Research Center. This is Michigan's largest public museum of natural history and culture and the state's only land-grant university museum. The Museum of Surveying is the only museum in North America dedicated solely to the surveying and mapping profession. The collection features an unparalleled display of survey artifacts, early instruments, and historical literature. The National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory
Here's a chance to see what nuclear physicists do for a living and how some of the magic of the heavens "the drama of a supernova" can be brought into the laboratory. Tours are available to school classes at all levels. What you will see: Tours combine a walk-through of many parts of one of the world's leading superconducting cyclotron laboratories, interesting videos, and demonstrations. Group size should be between 5 and 50 visitors. Persons under the age of 18 years must have written permission from a parent or guardian to enter the access-controlled areas. State Capitol Building
The State Capitol is unique. Not only is it Michigan's most important historic building, but it is proudly regarded as a symbol of the state itself. It has received national recognition for its extraordinary architecture and art. Scheduled tours are offered weekdays by the Capitol Tour and Information Service. Tours encompass the public areas of the Capitol and include visits to the House and Senate galleries. Guides provide historical and contemporary information on the building and the legislative process. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more visitors. W. J. Beal Botanical Garden
This beautiful display garden is an outdoor laboratory for the study and appreciation of plants. It is one of the principal centers of plant interest within the arboretum-like campus of Michigan State University. More than 5,000 different kinds of plants can be found on the five acre site. This garden, established in 1873 by Professor William James Beal, is the oldest continuously operated university botanical garden of its kind in the United States. It's free to walk around the garden. If you would like a guided tour, there is a fee of $1 per student and $2 per adult with a minimum group charge of $20. The Woldumar Nature Center offers numerous outreach and on-site Environmental Education programs for children as well as adults. State Capitol Building
The State Capitol is unique. Not only is it Michigan's most important historic building, but it is proudly regarded as a symbol of the state itself. It has received national recognition for its extraordinary architecture and art. Scheduled tours are offered weekdays by the Capitol Tour and Information Service. Tours encompass the public areas of the Capitol and include visits to the House and Senate galleries. Guides provide historical and contemporary information on the building and the legislative process. Reservations are required for groups of 10 or more visitors. W. J. Beal Botanical Garden
This beautiful display garden is an outdoor laboratory for the study and appreciation of plants. It is one of the principal centers of plant interest within the arboretum-like campus of Michigan State University. More than 5,000 different kinds of plants can be found on the five acre site. This garden, established in 1873 by Professor William James Beal, is the oldest continuously operated university botanical garden of its kind in the United States. It's free to walk around the garden. If you would like a guided tour, there is a fee of $1 per student and $2 per adult with a minimum group charge of $20. Woldumar Nature Center
The Woldumar Nature Center offers numerous outreach and on-site Environmental Education programs for children as well as adults.
