3 Ways to Receive Free College Credits
1. DUAL ENROLLMENT. Lansing Community College, as well as many community colleges in Michigan, offers dual enrollment in college courses while in high school. Students may select special courses of interest that are not available at their local high school. College courses may apply towards high school diploma and/or college credits, but neither are guaranteed. No specific number of courses are required.
Enrollment: Students must enroll through their home school district. Homeschoolers may be able to enroll through their local district, though some, like Lansing School District has historically been unsupportive of partnering with homeschoolers. Eaton Rapids public school has been willing to enroll homeschool students whose home districts. Partnering schools may restrict access to courses if similar offerings are available at the high school.
2. EARLY COLLEGE. Lansing Community College, as well as many community colleges in Michigan, offers a structured program of rigorous courses to complete both a high school diploma and credits toward an associates degree over a period of 3 years. Students who are qualified to begin college level courses early in the process may be able to complete their associates degree within the allotted time frame. Upon completing this program students will be considered transfers, rather than freshmen, at any future colleges. This may limit some access to financial aid reserved for freshmen, though ideally two years of college will have already been completed at no cost.

3. LANSING PROMISE FUND. Tuition assistance is available to students who live within the Lansing School District boundaries and graduate after completing grades 9 through 12 at a Lansing School, including public, private, charter, or homeschool. These students are eligible for tuition assistance for up to 65 credits at Lansing Community College or the equivalent dollar amount toward tuition and fees at Michigan State University or Olivet College.
